«Behold, the days come,» saith the Lord, «because I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not as the covenant I made with their fathers on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, even though I was her husband, says the Lord. But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after these days, says the Lord: I will put my law in them, and I will write it in their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be my people. And not every one will teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, «Know the Lord,» for they will all know me, from the smallest to the greatest, says the Lord. For I will forgive their sins, and I will remember their sins no more. A few years after Jeremiah, the prophet Ezekiel heard Yahweh say, «I will give you a new heart with new and righteous desires, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will bring your stone heart out of sin and give you a new and obedient heart. And I will put my Spirit in you, that ye may obey my laws, and do what I command» (36:26-27). And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in Jesus Christ.

Teach us, therefore, to count our days in order to have a heart of wisdom. Keep your heart alert, for from it flow the sources of life. Blessed are those who bear his testimony, who seek him with all their hearts, 1. Moses 20:5 He did not say to me, Is she my sister? And she, yes, herself, said: He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands, I did this. The work of the law.–The practical effect or fulfillment of the law–written in their hearts as the original law was written on the tablets of stone (cf. Jeremiah 31:33; 2 Corinthians 3:3). The Lord is close to those who are broken and saves those who are crushed in spirit. My Son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart guard my commandments for long days and years of life and peace that they will add to you. «At that time,» says the Lord, «I will be the God of all the tribes of Israel, and they will be my people.» Thus says the Lord: «The people who survived the sword found favor in the wilderness; When Israel sought rest, the Lord appeared to them from afar.

I have loved you with eternal love. That is why I have continued my fidelity to you. Once more, I will build you and you will be edified, O virgin Israel! Again, you will adorn yourself with tambourines and you will undress in the dance of the joyful. Again, you will plant vines on the mountains of Samaria; Growers plant and enjoy fruit. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding. «Blessed are those who are pure in heart, for they will see God. For not only did the word of the Lord resound from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God went everywhere, so we have nothing to say. My son, keep my words and cherish my commandments with you. Keep my commandments and live; Keep my teaching as the apple of your eye.

Attach them to your fingers; Write them on the board of your heart. You will seek me and find me if you seek me with all your heart. This is not a word you would have expected from Jeremiah if you had known him. Jeremiah was known as «the crying prophet» and he was always upset about something. The message God gave him was one of judgment, the truth that God`s people were not exempt from judgment and that Jerusalem itself would be destroyed. This did not make Jeremiah popular. He ended up in prison and in a pit, and he became angry with God for giving him this job. What Jeremiah kept telling people was that sin has consequences. They could no longer disobey God`s moral law and think that nothing would happen to them. Jeremiah entered the temple and said, «You think you are safe, for this is the house of God, this is the house of God, this is the house of God.

God says: If you change your ways, I will let you live here. If you start treating yourself fairly, if you take care of widows and orphans, if you give up violence and stop worshipping other things for me, then I will let you live here and you will be safe. But you are deceiving yourself! You deceive each other, lie to each other and sleep together, and then you enter my house and chant «A mighty fortress is our God.» Go to Shiloh, where my house used to be. There`s nothing! This is what will happen here if you do not change and begin to obey me. If you go to Jerusalem, you can see where the temple was. Twice, God used foreign armies to destroy His own home because people were just talking, not obeying. There is no temple at all in Jerusalem, only a mosque. Attach them to your fingers; Write them on the board of your heart. You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written in our hearts to be recognized and read by all. Blessed is he who always fears the Lord, but he who hardens his heart will fall into disaster. First of all, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the world. 2.

We have direct knowledge of God. This is what the Lord says in Jeremiah 31:34: «They shall no longer teach one another, saying, `Know the Lord, for they shall all know me, from the least to the greatest. I think the preachers will be unemployed! You will not need me as some kind of mediator to tell you about God, because you will know God for yourself. The Hebrew word for «to know» here is the same word used in «Adam knew Eve, his wife, and she conceived.» It means intimate personal knowledge that is only possible when two people are committed to each other. By God, to know him is to love him. The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip. 1. God`s law becomes interior.

In the end, it didn`t work for God to give people His law written on tables of stone, because their hearts were still hearts of stone. The law remained alien to them and was never fully internalized as a basic principle of life. Even if they obeyed, they were like people who obeyed the speed limit just to avoid a speeding ticket, not like people who instinctively drive at the limit because they know it`s safer. God says, «I will change this. I will put my law in it. I will write it on his heart with my own finger. The Hebrews did not see the heart only as the seat of emotion; The heart was the seat of the will; It was the seat of the intellect. The ancients did not know that the brain was the seat of thought, so they did not live outside their heads as we do; They thought they lived from their hearts.

The next analogue to the Hebrew «heart» could be our psychological concept of the ego. So I think the picture here is not of born-again, redeemed people able to walk in a way that pleases the Lord through the Holy Spirit, but of the pagan world in general, who have enough knowledge of God`s moral law in their hearts because they were created in God`s image that their consciences conflict: Sometimes approving, sometimes disapproving. The wise at heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will perish. «This is the covenant I will make with themAfter these days,» says the Lord:I He then said, This book of the law shall not come out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may take care to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your prosperous way, and then you will have a good success. I rejoice in doing your will, O my God; Your law is in my heart. Just be very careful and keep the commandment and law that Moses, the servant of the Lord, commanded you to love the Lord your God and walk in all His ways, and keep His commandments, and cling to Him, and serve Him with all your heart and soul. Everyone must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under duress, because God loves the one who gives joyfully. There is, of course, a «not yet» aspect to this triumph. The same is true of the kingdom of God. But there is also an «already» aspect.

God is already writing His values in our hearts. His Spirit transforms us day by day to make us more Christlike. Philippians 2:13 says, «God works in you and gives you the desire and ability to please Him. For I want you to know how great my struggle is for you and for those of Laodicea, and for all those who have not seen me face to face, so that their hearts may be encouraged to be united in love, to attain all the riches of full certainty of understanding and knowledge of the mystery of God. it is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this so that no one can fool you with plausible arguments. For though I am physically absent, I am with you in spirit, and I am glad to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. The heart is deceitful about everything and hopelessly sick; Who can understand that? In our experience, these three things often come in reverse order. First, we receive forgiveness of sins.

Then we experience direct knowledge of God. Then His Spirit changes us inwardly when He writes His law in our hearts. For some people, these things all happen at the same time. The important thing is that they happen. They can happen to you. It`s not just for a day when Jesus returns or we go to heaven. It can be your daily experience of living in relationship with God through Jesus Christ. As we celebrate the sacrament, we remember Jesus` words when He lifted up the cup: «This cup is the new covenant between God and you, sealed by the shedding of my blood» (1.

Corinthians 11:25).
